Founded in 1963, Starfish Family Services is a community-based nonprofit organization serving thousands of vulnerable children and families annually in Metro Detroit.
Our passion is early childhood development. We strive every day to prepare young children for a successful start to school. Our programs and services uniquely recognize and respect the important role of parents and other caregivers in the long-term success of children
Starfish Family Services is thrilled to have been selected by the national office of Head Start to receive $60 million in funding over the next five years- $12 million will be awarded per year. The national Birth to Five pilot program award funding is the first of its kind in Michigan, with Detroit chosen as one of only five cities in the U.S. to participate in this initiative. Starfish was selected because of its success in delivering Early Head Start (for pregnant women and children birth to three years old) and Head Start (for children ages three to five) programs in Detroit and western Wayne County.
